WHAT IS TUMOR ABLATION?
Local tumor destruction with image-guided precision
Tumor ablation is the direct application of chemical or thermal therapies to a tumor to achieve eradication or substantial tumor destruction.
Minimally invasive ablation techniques are now available for local destruction of focal tumors across multiple organ sites. Microwave ablation (MWA) uses the biological response to tissue hyperthermia to treat solid tumors through a relatively low-risk procedure.
Why microwave ablation?
MWA offers higher thermal efficiency, the ability to coagulate blood vessels, faster ablation time and the option to use multiple antennas simultaneously.
These characteristics make microwave ablation a promising minimally invasive technique for the treatment of solid tumors.
CLINICAL VALUE
Benefits of Microwave Tumor Ablation
Key attributes that make microwave ablation relevant for contemporary interventional oncology workflows.
Minimal Invasive Tumor Treatment
Designed to support local tumor treatment through minimally invasive techniques.
Reduced Morbidity & Mortality
A treatment approach intended to reduce procedural burden compared with more invasive options.
Real-time Imaging Guidance
Suitable for procedures performed with real-time imaging guidance.
Outpatient Potential
May support ablation workflows that can be performed in an outpatient setting where clinically appropriate.
Synergy With Cancer Treatments
Can be integrated with other cancer treatment strategies in selected patients.
Repeatability
Ablation can be considered again when clinically indicated.
THERMAL ABLATION TECHNOLOGY
A versatile platform for solid tumor treatment
MWA can be performed safely using percutaneous, laparoscopic or open surgical techniques. Continued advances in antenna design, treatment strategy and combined therapies are anticipated to improve therapeutic outcomes and strengthen the clinical role of microwave ablation.
